The role you’ll contribute:

Under the direction of an RN, assists in smooth daily operations of the PACU, OR, or GI Lab by performing routine and delegated ancillary duties according to standards and policies. Assists nurses in preparing and transporting patients for surgery. Helps maintain cleanliness and upkeep of equipment and supplies in the care environment.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Assists in the cleaning, sterilization, setup and maintenance of equipment (e.g. clean canisters, anesthesia circuits and suctions, monitoring lines, LMAs and laryngoscope blades).

  • Assists in transport of used/soiled equipment, instruments, and supplies from patient care areas back to Central Processing for processing.

  • Cleans operating room suites or procedure rooms between cases. Assist with terminal cleaning of operating room as requested. Puts equipment, supplies and instruments away. Assists in prepping room for the next patient.

  • Performs the proper, timely delivery and pickup of various items such as supplies, records, x-rays, orders and equipment as needed.

  • Maintain cleanliness and neatness of lounge and changing rooms in collaboration with the Environmental Services department.

  • Cleans storage areas and stock supplies (e.g., scrub brushes, masks, shoe covers, hats, cleaning supplies and garbage bags) as required.

  • Assist in supply maintenance as needed (e.g. linen stocking and disposal, cutting oxygen tubing etc.)

  • Assists in patient care preparation as directed including assisting with completion of the pre-op checklist, shaving surgical site, betadine scrub, ect.

  • Assists the RN to provide quality patient care by providing comfort and hygiene measures, skin care, safety measures and nutrition.

  • Performs a variety of technical tasks which include set up of equipment, glucometer, and pulse oximeter, preps, positioning, and any other additional tasks requested by nursing staff.

  • Collects and delivers specimens practicing universal precautions as directed by the Registered Nurse.

  • Performs the safe, timely transport of patients interdepartmentally and upon discharge.

  • Answers phones and correspondence in a timely manner.

  • Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.

  • Effectively communicates with perioperative and sterile processing staff.

  • Performs all duties in a conscientious, courteous and caring manner to maintain positive customer relations.

  • Maintains efficiency under stress and with irregular working hours.

  • Adheres to department procedures and acceptable protocols.

  • Applies knowledge of the dress code related to Standard Precautions and consistently wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Reports any life safety issues, environmental concerns or process deviation to immediate supervisor.

  • Participates in quality improvement, evidence-based practice and research activities.

  • Participates in professional and program development by attending department in-services, and meetings.

  • Assists with the education of new staff and students.

  • Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements.

  • Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.

  • Completes required documentation on unit-based cleaning.

  • Maintains supply inventories and other documentation to maintain security and financial accountability of the department/unit.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :

Minimum qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • BLS Certification through American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous experience in hospital setting and surgical services
