The role you'll contribute:

The Surgical Tech works under the supervision of the surgeon and RN. Assists surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set-up of instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical cases and passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed. Assists in preparing and moving patients and sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms. Coordinates functions and activities for all surgical specialties; maintains appropriate supplies, instruments, vendor needs, and physician preferences. Covers specialty service in absence of RN specialty leader. Assists in orienting new hires and training staff for the surgical specialties, i.e., procedures, equipment, new technology and changes in clinical practice. Participates in strategic planning and related implementation activities.

• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators, and opening procedures.

• Effectively communicates with surgeon and nursing staff. Rounds frequently in the department to ensure and facilitate quality delivery of surgical care.

• Assists with terminal cleaning of operating room. Puts equipment, supplies and instruments away as required. Assists in prepping room for the next patient.

• Ensures compliance by monitoring and coaching staff concerning CMS, Joint Commission, AORN, AST and AAMI standards. Participates in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research activities.

• Participates in professional and program development by attending department in-services, meetings and by sharing professional expertise to enhance quality of patient care and staff development. Seeks specialty service-learning opportunities and growth for advancement.

• Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements.

• Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.

• Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED.

• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.

• 2 years of surgical tech experience.

• Basic computer skills.

• BLS from American Heart Association

• Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado. A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech.

• Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT

Preferred:

• Experience in a specialty field.
