You Will Be Responsible For:

What You Will Be Responsible For:

Follows established procedures for patient and specimen identification.

Conducts problem resolution for pre analytical/analytical and post analytical

specimen issues.

Utilizes LIS system for all specimen processing and handling functions

Performs all functions for histologic preparation of slides including but not limited

to accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, slide preparation, staining,

labeling, and coverslipping.

Performs special stains and immunoperoxidase stains as appropriate.

Assists in establishing and adheres to laboratory Quality Control policies.

Performs and documents required maintenance, calibrations, and

troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and test systems.

Identifies problems that adversely affect test/ work performance and resolves

them in accordance with established laboratory policies and


Compiles, reviews, and presents Quality Assurance and volume metric data,

including preparation for Cancer Conference/Tumor Board.

Acts as resource for pathology billing and ensures accurate charging for

pathology cases.

Manages reagents and supplies.

Performs cytopathology preparation and FNA assistance when needed.

Prepares specimens for send outs and maintains appropriate documentation.

Prepares/maintains policies and procedures for Histology

Demonstrates competency in use of standard precautions, safety practices and

hazardous waste management of materials used and produced in

pathology department.

Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and professional under

stressful situations.

Assures workflow continuity through communication.

Maintains regular dialog with Laboratory supervisory / managerial staff

concerning quality, safety, and customer service issues within the department

and the facility.

Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and laboratory

supervisory personnel.


What You Will Need:

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing required.

Immunohistochemistry staining competency preferred

Additional languages preferred.

High School diploma or equivalent required.

5 years related experience required.

Hospital based laboratory with outreach experience preferred

Histologic Technician training at a certified training program required.

Current Histologic Technician or Histotechnologist certification preferred; certification within 1 year of hire required.

Job Summary:

Receives and accurately processes surgical or diagnostic tissue specimens from various hospital departments and physician offices. Accurately prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist. Identifies, prepares, cuts, stains and preserves specimens in such a manner as assist the Pathologist to render a quality diagnosis. Maintains Pathology laboratory equipment and supplies.
