The role you’ll contribute: Working under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for administering quality routine nursing care in the Medical Surgical department other areas deemed appropriate by the Charge Nurse and or Administrative Supervisor.

NURSING PROCESS: In collaboration with the staff RN, demonstrates an understanding of and shows an ability to use the nursing process.Participates in the assessment of the patient’s physical and mental health, including the patient’s reaction to illnesses and treatment regimens.Participates in implementing the health care plan developed by the registered nurse and/or prescribed by any person authorized by State law to prescribe such a plan, by performing tasks assigned or delegated by and performed under the supervision or under orders or directions of a registered nurse and physician licensed to practice medicine.Carries out physician’s orders promptly and accurately within the limitations of training and hospital policy.Consults with RN as appropriate. Participates in the teaching and counseling of patients as assigned by a registered nurse or physician.Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients as needed.
PATIENT SAFETY:Maintains safe and effective nursing care, whether rendered directly or indirectly. Follows strict infection prevention precautions.Adheres to policy and procedure regarding all aspects of medication safety.Ensures nurse call system is within patient reach and that patient understands how to use it.Assists in keeping patient rooms orderly and hazard free.Demonstrates proper technique when transferring and repositioning patients.Knows and observes hospital and departmental safety, fire, and disaster policies and procedures.Reports and documents incidents involving patients, staff, and visitors.Reports broken and non-functional equipment to appropriate persons.Is aware of and promotes the Fall Prevention Program. Assists other staff in completion of their duties as time and assignments allows.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
· Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program
· Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse License in North Carolina
· BLS obtained through the American Heart Association
