Location: AdventHealth Cancer Institute Hinsdale

The role you’ll contribute:

Participates in the quality care of our patients by providing medical physics services at or above the State and Federal requirements as well as meeting any national standards of care in radiation oncology. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful of all.

  • Provides clinical supervision of the clinical staff to include the medical physics staff (physicists and dosimetrists).

  • May assist the Administrative and Medical Director in maintaining an efficient and effective clinical operation.

  • Participates in the specification, selection, service contracts and acceptance of machines, accessories and support equipment necessary to deliver radiation therapy.

  • Oversees the implementation of all aspects of the physics quality management programs and, as needed, participates in the physics' quality assurance program for all radiation producing and supporting equipment.

  • Supports the Radiation Safety group in implementing and maintaining the departmental radiation safety program, including compliance with all regulating and certifying agencies, staff training support and supervision of source ordering, handling, waste removal and disposal. Maintains a quality program that meets or exceeds Departmental of Health Radiation Control regulations.

  • Actively participates in developing of new sites, remodeling of existing sites, developing and evaluating shielding designs, clinical treatment programs and technologies.

  • Has clinical oversight of the therapists through the operational leader to ensure all the clinical sites are maintaining a consistent treatment procedure, quality assurance program and equipment.

  • Actively directs the linear accelerator maintenance program through the service engineers.

  • Performs dosimetric calculations for external beam, brachytherapy and radiopharmaceutical therapy as needed.

  • Provides medical physics consultation to physicians, staff and patients as needed, including radiation safety for patients and family

  • Provides clinical guidance of dosimetrists and medical physicists and completes their annual evaluations.

  • Provides physics coverage of other Hospital locations as needed.

  • Reviews all required weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually performance testing on equipment.

  • Reviews the quality assurance of linear accelerators, simulators, HDR units and any other radiation therapy treatment device.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelors Degree and five years of experience required

  • Three or more years of Leadership experience required

  • Five years post board certification related work experience preferred

  • Current active State licensure in Therapeutic Medical Physics preferred

  • Current certification by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics in Therapeutic Medical Physics preferred

  • PHD in Medical Physics preferred

  • Three or more years of radiation oncology leadership experience preferred
