The role you’ll contribute:
The Patient Accounts Specialist is responsible for duties specific to the assigned department that supports the functions of the Revenue Cycle for AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Assist in meeting departmental goals in accordance to the hospital strategic plan. Patient Accounts Specialist will foster a patient-focused environment in the department; maintaining acceptable standards of service and assisting in creating a vision for the area which reflects the vision and values of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.

Maintain a 98% RQA score each month
Remain current on insurance knowledge and changes
Work cooperatively within work group and with service lines
Obtain and process accurate patient demographic and insurance information
Verify eligibility/insurance benefits and may obtain insurance authorizations
Create price estimates based on patient’s insurance and test/procedure
Suggest to Team Lead and/or Manager new procedures to improve the quality and quantity of work processed
Communicate honestly with everyone. Resolves issues and problems as they arise
Remain current with EMTALA regulations and how they affect Patient Access
Supports the goals of the entire Patient Access department
Work to continually improve the employee satisfaction scores as measured by the Glint survey
Demonstrate and convey a favorable image of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission
Incorporate customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action
Demonstrate and promote high standards for quality and productivity; focus on improving results
Attend all training meetings to ensure all new policies, procedures and implementations are kept up to date
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to stand for up to 4 hours at a time
Medical terminology knowledge – preferred
Experience in a Patient Access setting or as a patient accounts specialist – preferred
Experience working with Cerner – preferred
