Work Hours/Shift:

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Responsible for the nursing staff orientation.
  • Orientation checklist will be used and fully documented to verify completed orientation to the facility policies and expectation of job descriptions.
  • Responsible for ensuring all pre-employment medical reports and TB testing requirements have been completed and documented on the employee record. 
  • Coordinates the Hepatitis B Vaccine program for the facility.
  • Develops an in-service calendar for the facility.  Topics will include those mandated by regulations as well as topics that have been identified as needed to maintain staff levels of competency.  The calendar will be kept current with new topics added and include dates and records of attendance at each in-service training program provided.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts regular and special in-service training programs for staff to keep current with new procedures, policies, and changes in resident care techniques.  The Director of Nurses provides input and approval for training programs.
  • Provides leadership in formulating the in-service programs in accordance with the philosophy and objectives defined by the Director of Nursing.
  • Keeps current on professional and industry standards, regulations and trends by attending professional seminars, institutes and reading professional journals, and confers with the DON for any necessary revisions in current educational program criteria.
  • Will conduct a minimum of 12 hours of education programs geared toward the CNA staff with documentation to validate attendance and demonstrated competency of their duties.
  • Attends department meetings and supervisory nursing meetings to ensure the facility is informed of training needs identified.
  • Works in a cooperative manner with other managers to share and provide a team spirit throughout the facility.
  • Responsible for making recommendations and improvement in training programs and materials to be used in staff development.
  • Monitors staff performance and adherence to policy requirements by means of Quality Assessment and Assurance audits.  Audits consist of assigned review of staff by observing performance of staff assigned for close assessment by the DON.
  • Participates in the screening, interviewing, and hiring process of CNA staff at the direction of the DON.
  • Establishes CEU records for Professional staff and monitors attendance at in-service programs and seminars by licensed staff to verify their licenses are current and they have met the required CEU hours for re-licensure.
  • Works closely with the Unit Managers to identify and provide training programs needed to enhance skill levels of staff and to promote team building.

What You Will Need:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state hired
  • Supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants
  • Proficient in the use of a computer
  • Typing of 40 wpm
Job Summary:
