Work Hours/Shift:

  • Full Time, Monday-Friday.

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Ensures all Insurance authorizations and benefits are obtained prior to a patient's office visit, Hospital procedure/admission, referral, patients seen in the Emergency Department, and patients seen as an Inpatient or as an Inpatient Consult:

  • Establishes a task report from the NextGen system that identifies patients who have been added to the schedule to review insurance referral, verification or authorization.

  • Maintains knowledge of Insurance Companies that required requires referrals, authorization and/or notification of office visit, in/out procedure, inpatient stay or consultation.

  • Completes insurance verification via telephone and/or on-line verification systems such as Availity or Insurance web site.

  • Ensures all insurance benefits and authorizations are properly entered into the patients chart in the NextGen System.

  • Provides Financial Education to patients and/or patient families to ensure proper financial arrangements have been made.

  • Meets with all Self Pay patients or patients with high deductibles to discuss payment options.

  • Creates payment plans based on patient's ability to pay.

  • On request, provides patients with an estimated quote on charges for services.

  • Completes and processes payroll deduct forms as an employee payment option.

  • Performs charge entry functions including diagnosis codes and associated reports:

  • On a daily enters charges and diagnosis codes for hospital inpatients or patients who have had outpatient procedures. When necessary assists with office visit charge entry.

  • Runs routine system reports to assure that charges are entered in a timely manner.

  • Coordinates all scheduled office, inpatient and outpatient procedures:

  • Reviews the schedule to determine upcoming procedures. Determines that all proper authorizations have been obtained. Assembles all materials required for patient review, signature or patient education for scheduled patient.

  • Assures that the Physician receives updates and changes as schedules are adjusted to cover patient care needs.

  • As needed, performs all duties of the front desk including check in and check out.


What You Will Need:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.

  • Intermediate knowledge of computers, internet use and typing skills required.

  • Must have basic understanding of Medical Terminology and demonstrated knowledge of CPT and ICD9 coding.

  • Requires at least 2 years experience in healthcare setting that includes front office experience with charge entry and insurance verifications.

  • Additional education could be substituted for this experience.

Job Summary:

The Financial Coordinator, under the supervision of the Practice Manager, coordinates insurance referrals, verification and authorization prior to patient care as well as providing financial counseling and education to patients and their families. In addition, the Financial Counselor provides oversight of the front office assuring that patient flow, including inpatient, outpatient, and office visits are coordinated for a smooth flow. When necessary fills in at the front desk. Prepares and reviews reports assuring that financial aspects of the Practice are handled in a timely manner.
