Cardiac Device Management Technician

JOB SUMMARY

The Cardiac Device Management Technician (CDMT) is responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of cardiac rhythms and rhythm EKG analysis in person and from remote transmission; evaluation of online information, retrieval and triage of that information, preparing it for entry to electronic health record, and physician evaluation. Determines when an adequate test has been obtained and consults supervisor or cardiologist as needed. Additional monitoring duties may include telephone evaluation of recorded events and the ability to communicate those events to physician. May take medical history, record vital signs, schedule patients and equipment maintenance.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to stand for long periods of time; Able to walk, climb, stand, turn, twist, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift at least 25 lbs, carry, finger, hold, talk, see with a good field of vision, and hear; Communicate on the telephone and directly with patients; read paperwork, printouts and computer screens; Requires manual dexterity sufficient to maintain files, operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and other small desk equipment and computer. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and possess the physical stamina and agility required to operate equipment and to effectively assist patients.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School graduate or equivalent is required.

  2. Knowledge of the equipment, standard tests and procedures, and typical readings including arrhythmias and abnormalities.

  3. Knowledge of typical patient reactions and signs of distress including the ability to recognize, report and treat potentially lethal arrhythmias.

  4. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiac medications.

  5. Able to independently perform tests.

  6. Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

  1. BLS certification (non-RN staff) / ACLS certification (RNs only) is required.

  2. CDM on-the-job training or completion of an approved CDMT program is required.

  3. IBHRE (International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners) Certification preferred.
