AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire an EKG I who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. Job Summary:

The EKG 1 independently performs diagnostic quality ECGs, SAECG, and Holter monitor hook-ups. Must recognize and alert appropriate personnel to lethal arrhythmias and unstable hemodynamics. Demonstrates scheduling flexibility and is compliant with special requests as situations dictate. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. A four-week notice is required for resignations, transfer, and any change in employment status resulting in decreased working hours.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to read, write legibly and perform basic mathematical functions

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds

  • Computer knowledge and skills

  • High school diploma or General Education diploma (preferred)

  • Prior ECG experience with Philips and/or Mortara ECG machines (preferred)

  • Experience with Cerner Electronic Medical Records (preferred)

  • Experience performing ECGs in a hospital setting (preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Job Responsibilities:

  • Positions and applies electrodes in proper location

  • Identifies and corrects for wandering, interference and artifact

  • Appropriate application of Holter monitors

  • Obtains all necessary information for proper interpretation

  • Manages unmatched list in a timely manner

  • Identifies patients by using Florida Hospital’s approved guidelines

  • Communicates abnormal findings to the nurse and or physician in a timely manner

  • Ensures that an order or a prescription is present for the EKG and or Holter monitor

  • Documentation

  • Accurately documents and reports all procedures in accordance with department expectations

  • Enters all patient demographic information accurately

  • Downloads, edits and faxes Holter monitor information in a timely manner

  • Assists as needed with various office responsibilities including physician billing, responding to phone inquiries and fax requests

  • Safety

  • Follows isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand washing according to FH policy

  • Cleans equipment according to FH policies and procedures

  • Communication

  • Communicates with patient and their family members according to their age and understanding

  • Explains procedures in a way that the receiver can understand

  • Completes all assignments and communicates pending items with the appropriate staff member

  • Openly receives instructions and guidance from fellow staff, supervisors and managers

  • Provides suggestions to improve department and hospital processes
