AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire an Experience Designer who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.

Department Profile:

The AdventHealth Innovation Lab (FHIL) provides the space and guidance to teams looking to innovate, improve or change current methods of operating and thinking. There are a variety of programs within the lab, ranging from long range innovation projects to two hour, fast paced, prototype development. All programs use a model called Design Thinking which allows the teams to gain empathy about a perceived problem, clearly define the problem, brainstorm ways to help the problem, design a prototype solution, and receive feedback on the solution.

Work Hours/Shifts:

Monday – Friday, 8:00am -5:00pm

Job Summary:

The Experience Designer manages a portfolio of projects with internal and external clients. Internal clients include Adventist Health System and AdventHealth executive stakeholders and AHS/FH entity stakeholders, i.e. Centra Care, FHPN, etc. External clients include executive leaders and teams from Technology and Healthcare Industry companies. Provides effective strategy and experience design by drawing heavily from essential required skills and departmental tools. Assumes ownership of projects as well as the establishment and maintenance of the client relationship. Leads clients through the customized innovation experience(s). Responsible for the satisfactory achievement of the experience goals of the client. Responsible for the preparation of collaboration agreements with both internal and external clients to include, scope of work, budget, timeline, and goals. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Application of general healthcare research knowledge

  • Knowledge in market analysis with context of healthcare and life sciences business needs

  • Strong project leadership skills

  • Creative, strategic approach to problem resolution; adaptable to current research in innovation and creative tools

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to share and receive information and ideas from all levels of the organization to achieve desired results

  • Ability to think quickly and adapt to changing situations; self-motivated and resourceful

  • Analytical, creative, and interpersonal skills

  • Design and facilitation skills

  • Design Thinking or other innovation philosophy expertise (Preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences or related field, OR four (4) years of relevant experience in design thinking, design theory or innovation

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a healthcare or business field with experience in life science or healthcare industry (Preferred)

  • Healthcare, Innovation, or Life Science industry experience and/or education or strategy consulting experience (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.

  • Manages and leads innovation projects to improve and/or develop relevant solutions for healthcare. Facilitates communication between interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams on projects. Responsible for meeting project timeline and budget.

  • Determines the type of project (product development, clinical trials, needs assessments, etc.) and project sizes (workshops, small and large clinical trials, proof of concepts), based on the technology or solution and the stage of development.

  • On-boards and manages healthcare focused, “Design Thinking”, innovation projects with cross-functional teams of clinical and non-clinical staff in the hospital to improve patient care and employee engagement.

  • Approaches and builds relevant clinical and non-clinical staff teams in the hospital, communicates project goal, and discusses its relevancy to healthcare to align companies with the appropriate departments in the hospital.

  • Writes detailed “scope of work” and reviews contracts between AdventHealth and External company in collaboration with necessary stakeholders (i.e. legal, research, AIT).

  • Determines preparations for large scale projects, arranges expert speakers, and drives the creation of necessary materials for projects. Effectively communicates details, goals, and expectations of the project with managers, directors and senior executives.

  • Reviews literature and researches technologies to determine their alignment with the hospital’s strategic imperatives and innovation strategy. Understands the science behind the technology, its applications, and scope of potential projects.

  • Supports and facilitates building a culture of innovation and design thinkers across the organization.
