You Will Be Responsible For:
Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient’s chart
Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment
Provides instructions to patients as instructed by provider. Effectively explains procedures and treatments to patients and to significant others when necessary.
Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants.
Schedules office appointments and surgeries appropriately. Contacts insurance company to obtain referral number or pre-certification/authorization as needed per procedure and files referrals, authorizations and clearances appropriately.
What You Will Need:
High school graduate or equivalent
Graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program
Must be currently certified and maintain certification by one of the following:
American Association of Medical Assistants (“AAMA”) for Certified Medical Assistants
American Medical Certification Association (“AMCA”) for Clinical Medical Assistant Certification
American Medical Technologists (“AMT”) for Registered Medical Assistant
National Association for Health Professionals (“NAHP”) for Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant
National Center for Competency Testing (“NCCT”) for National Certified Medical Assistant
National Healthcareer Association (“NHA”) for Registered Clinical Medical Assistant
Current, valid CPR certification is required
The Medical Assistant / Surgery Scheduler, reporting to the office or practice manager, provides appropriate care to patients within the scope of the Medical Practice Act. This individual obtains clinical, financial and demographic patient data and assists in patient education. Assists providers during the treatment and examination of patients and administers procedures and treatments as ordered by the provider. With no Surgery Scheduler in the practice, assists patients in scheduling and expediting necessary appointments and surgeries, meeting their insurance requirements, and discussing any questions, complaints, comments or suggestions with patients and their families. Advocates for patients in resolution of concerns and works with staff to resolve concerns and improve services.
