The role you’ll contribute:
The Pharmacy Environmental Sampling Technician works under the general supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager to perform routine sample collection of pharmacy compounding environments at sites across the division. The Pharmacy Environmental Sampling Technician will work closely with the Pharmacy Environmental Microbiology Analyst to provide comprehensive environmental monitoring reports. Under guidance of qualified (pharmaceutical) microbiologists, the Sampling Technician may perform re-sampling and investigative samples for sites across the division. As a member of the of AdventHealth Orlando Pharmacy team, this specialist will actively contribute to the assuring quality of sterile compounding environments and safe sterile compounding. This employee will also actively participate in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Collects viable air, particle count, and surface samplings throughout the AdventHealth Orlando Division Campus Pharmacies, with adherence to excellent aseptic technique and compliant with USP <1116>, <797>, <800> standards.
Performs pre-analytical testing of samples including: incubation and enumeration of environmental and personnel monitoring samples and the visual inspection of personnel testing/media fill samples and testing controls in absence of Microbiology Analyst and/or QA Manager
Performs other assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, which may include general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks and documentation; inventory control and supply stocking; viable sample collection; environmental sample processing; cleaning and disinfection of selected or assigned sample inspection equipment and spaces; quality control and calibration performance; and other pre-analytical activities.
Performs all expected tests and analytical procedures for assigned department or work area efficiently and accurately, according to AdventHealth procedures, performance standards, and departmental competency standards.
Prepare and submits commercially prepared media to laboratory for acceptance (quality control testing) and peer reviews results
Participates in proficiency testing of environmental monitoring, sampling, and pre-analytical microbiological testing (and assists in conducting cleanroom garbing qualifications when necessary) consistently adhering to federal and state regulations as well as AdventHealth policies.
Coordinates and ensures timely calibration and preventative maintenance of Environmental Monitoring and Microbiology equipment owned by the Pharmacy Department
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or work area.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of sample collection as it relates to aseptic processing environments such as sterile compounding cleanrooms or sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.
Personal qualities and interpersonal communication skills to interact and maintain good relationships with a broad spectrum of healthcare disciplines and the public under all circumstances
Functions independently using effective written and verbal communication
Detail oriented with exceptional time management, documentation and teamwork skills
Ability to self-monitor progress and complete assigned tasks independently
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet knowledge skills
Familiar with sterile and non-sterile USP compounding standards
Mature judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within AdventHealth guidelines and applicable regulations.
Ability to meet standards for garbing and hand hygiene competency qualification
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED
Florida Driver's License
Minimum of 3 years of experience with aseptic technique, cleanroom operations, or microbial control
Previous professional experience with aseptic sample collection
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
· Expert ISO/Cleanroom/Environmental Monitoring for Aseptic Processing knowledge
· Knowledge of USP, GMP (GDP, GLP), and CFR regulations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
· Experience performing Environmental Monitoring for ISO classified environments
· Experience participating in environmental microbial investigations
· GMP/GLP experience preferred with regard to receipt and release of testing supplies
· GMP/GLP experience of peer reviewing of testing and laboratory results
· Understanding of cleanroom environments and mechanisms of primary and secondary engineering controls
· Previous use of LIMS or EM software
