AdventHealth seeks to hire a Security Officer II who will

embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Department Profile:

The AdventHealth System Security

Department consists of 5 Divisions: Technology, Training, Communications,

Investigations, and Security Force Operations. While the System Security

Division is located on the Orlando campus, the scope of services provided, and

oversight of operations extends to all business entities located in the

AdventHealth Central Market.

Work Hours/Shifts:

6:00pm – 6:00am or 6:00am

– 6:00pm. Days vary.

Job Summary:

The Security Officer II performs

security service duties through professional and positive interaction with the

public, patients, employees and administrators. Responds to a variety of calls;

provides assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations. Investigates and

documents (both electronically and written) safety hazards, incidents and

criminal activities. Patrols designated areas to ensure the protection of the

public, patients, employees and property of AdventHealth. Is accountable to the

department’s chain of command for initiative, judgment and general competence

exhibited in the performance of assignments, calls for service, and day-to-day

general duties. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and

accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful

to all. Position requires completion and clearance from physiological and

physical fitness screenings.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, &Experience Required:

  • Ability to read accurately and comprehend, writeclearly, and understand in a manner to effectively complete legal reports,narratives, and follow simple directions. Ability to read, interpret, andapply safety rules, penal codes, vehicular codes, radio codes, reports,memos, communications, policies, and other required written materials.Ability to actively listen and communicate effectively through clearspeech, and hearing

  • Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, andcommunication devices and perform all aspects of the job safely withoutimposing risk to self and/or others

  • Computer literacy with ability to use basichospital/security applications and information management systems required

  • Good critical thinking skills, and ability to set andquickly reset priorities

  • Able to work and train in an environment with occurringperiods of crisis and stress

  • Ability to recognize faces

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matterspertaining to patients, visitors and/or employees

  • Ability to work independently within a team-orientedenvironment; ability to work closely with medical and nursing staff toresolve patient-related problems

  • Ability to identify recurring security operationissues, collaborate with leadership to problem solve and developsolutions, and work with the Security Management team on implementation ofchange

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability todiplomatically handle stressful situations)

  • Associate’s degree in security or law enforcement, OR

  • Technical college certificate in a criminal justice orrelated field, OR

  • One year of security, military or law enforcementexperience

  • Basic computer skills including Windows, Word and Excel(Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, orRegistration Required:

  • State of Florida Class E driver’s license and drivingrecord in accordance with AdventHealth policy

  • International Association for Healthcare Security andSafety (IAHSS) Basic Training certification (Preferred)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Preferred)

  • MOAB International – Management of Aggressive Behavior(MOAB) (Preferred)

  • Personal Safety Training, Inc. – Handcuffing, orequitable national certification (Preferred)

  • Personal Safety Training, Inc. – Pepper Spray, orequitable national certification (Preferred)

  • Personal Safety Training, Inc. – Baton, or equitablenational certification (Preferred)

  • TASER International – Conducted Electrical Weapon(Preferred)

  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) trainingcertificates (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactively patrols assigned areas and performs allsecurity related tasks, ensuring life safety standards are maintained.Investigates suspicious activity or persons. Investigates and/or reportshazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to Security Operations Centerand keeps Supervisor apprised of unusual activities and events. Respondsto events of varying degrees of vulnerability, including highvulnerability such as life threatening events, natural disasters.

  • Participates in activities not directly related toSecurity operations as approved by Security Management. These may includetransport and release of bodies from the morgue; patient escort; elevatorrecall checks; monthly fire extinguisher, panic alarm, and intercomchecks; and special event setups.

  • Acknowledges and responds appropriately to emergency,non-emergency and alarm calls as assigned. Uses good judgment to safelydetermine the alarm cause, takes appropriate action and/or provides theproper assistance and direction in both emergency and non-emergencysituations. Administers initial first aid as appropriate and to the levelof training attained.

  • Learns applicable systems and responds to fire alarmsat facilities during actual alarms and drills. Conducts helicopter fireprevention assessment and provides emergency response to helicopter fires.Maintains appropriate communication with Supervisors, fellow Officers andSecurity Operations Center to report crimes, incidents and safety relatedirregularities.

  • Intercedes in disputes between individuals by usingverbal de-escalation techniques and skills to diffuse potentially violentpatient, employee, or visitor situations. Physically manages combative,violent persons without hesitation using techniques taught in the requiredannual aggression management training.

  • Patrols assigned areas to provide security presence.Unlocks buildings/doors after checking identification and compliance withHospital policies; properly utilizes and maintains all issued and operatedequipment. Observes activity and traffic in assigned area to enforceHospital rules/regulations; alerts visitors of infractions. Assistsindividuals on property needing directions or information. Escortspeople/property to desired destination when safety of property or individualsis a concern.

  • Monitors vehicle and pedestrian traffic on or inAdventHealth properties. Interviews and investigates individuals involvedin suspicious or illegal activities. Detains unauthorized individuals asdefined by policy or state law, and releases them to the properauthorities.

  • Investigates and documents, through both written andelectronic format as required, to report safety hazards, incidents andcriminal activities to Security Administration, law enforcement and otherappropriate agencies as determined by AdventHealth, department policy, orstate law. Conducts annual security assessments (as assigned) ofindividual AdventHealth properties to determine possible security risks.

  • May float to various campuses to provide securitysupport.
