You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Performs the customary duties as Manager of Education providing education and training, in-services, orientation, and internship programs to hospital personnel in a manner that encourages high quality patient care, a safe environment, and job satisfaction.
  • Assists as needed with coordination of programs and instructs and presents on multiple topics in relation to training needs. Develops instructional materials, evaluates commercially produced materials and cooperates with other health system departments and disciplines in utilization of these resources.
  • Establishes goals and objectives for program implementation and the Education Department.  Goals and objectives are developed from annual needs survey, organization vision, meetings with Department Managers and Directors, education staff feedback, reviews of aggregate data, medical staff feedback, and regulatory requirements.  Develops staff education programs to achieve identified goals and objectives.
  • Discusses and reviews daily activities with supervised employees to ensure direction of activities meet needs and determine if additional resources are required.  Delegates assignments as appropriate to supervised personnel.
  • Plans and develops schedule of monthly educational offerings in coordination with Educators, hospital department directors, and others as needs are assessed and planned.  Ensures the calendar of events is published and distributed.  Monitors attendance in relation to registration to determine appropriate adjustments in scheduling.
  • Develops and implements annual house-wide education to meet regulatory requirements and to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.  Oversees maintenance of statistics of employees’ education completion utilizing electronic software.
  • Supervises the development of continuing education programs following the Florida State Board of Nursing, Radiology, Respiratory, Laboratory and Social Work provider requirements. Maintains current provider number for Nursing, Radiology, Respiratory, Laboratory, and Social Work.  Assures qualified faculty is selected for educational programs.  Assures all programs are reported to CE Broker as required by Florida Law.
  • Coordinates and oversees affiliation agreements with colleges, universities and other health education programs to ensure that all requirements for student clinical rotations are met.  Coordinates/facilitates orientation of all students prior to clinical rotation.
  • Attends scheduled meetings including: Nursing Leadership, Combined Leadership. HIPAA/Corporate Compliance (ad hoc), Foundation for Nursing Excellence, TJC Task forces, Safety Committee, Patient Safety, Stroke Committee, Memorial Heart Institute Education Committee. Serves on PI teams, as requested.
  • Manages activities involving education recruiting efforts, especially for nursing and other clinical positions.  Visits and presents programs to local high schools, health academies, and colleges within the area. Attends out of town events as needed. Participates in additional community events to support efforts of Florida Hospital Ormond/ Oceanside.
  • Manages activities of Clinical Educators in coordination with nursing and patient care department directors to meet department needs.  Supervised activities include, but are not limited to, orientation of nursing employees, coordinating review of Clinical Services Policy and Procedure manual, Nursing Internship coordination, Intermediate Critical Care Course, Net-Learning, NetManager, and Micromedex/ Care Notes software.  Coordinates in-service training sessions regarding new policies, procedures, standards, regulations, and changes in patient care techniques.
  • Reviews evaluation of all educational programs, revising as needed to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Oversees the coordination of ACLS/BLS training for all qualified hospital organization personnel, and community healthcare personnel.
  • Manages activities of Education Secretary to assist with preparation of class materials, schedules, and Net-Learning software to ensure efficient execution of office procedures.
  • Oversees the management of the Education Department resources, including but not limited to the education classroom in Reflections, computer training rooms in Reflections and Ormond, Simulation Room at Oceanside, ACLS/BLS training rooms in Reflections and Ormond and all A-V equipment within Reflections classroom.
  • Manages development and maintenance of competency reviews used to assess hospital staff, to include age-specific and performance competency formats in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Prepares annual operating and capital Education budget and Educational Intern budgets for all facilities.  Explores and develops opportunities for the Education Department programs and overall activities to generate revenue for Florida Hospital Ormond/ Oceanside.
  • Tracks and reports utilization of orientation hours.
  • Works collaboratively with PI, Risk Management, and Infection Control to improve the quality and safety of patient care.
  • Performs supervisory functions of personnel in Education Department including coaching, counseling, interviewing, hiring, and evaluating.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • BSN required.
  • Minimum three to five years previous management experience in a hospital required.
  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida required.
  • Must be CPR, BLS and ACLS certified.
  • Must have or be willing to secure CPR and ACLS instructor certificate.

Job Summary:

Manages the activities and personnel in the Education Department to provide for the in-service and continuing education needs of employees and the coordination of student group activities. Includes the coordination, preparation, and recordkeeping for all hospital education programs in compliance with accreditation requirements, state laws and regulations.
