Work Hours/Shift:
Full Time, Day
 
You Will Be Responsible For:
Service
  • Provides a weekly summary of project progress and learnings to the director for the communication cascade to local executives and front-line staff
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient safety and protecting patients and providers by advocating safe practices and policies
  • Acts as an in-house consultant for current and proposed needs for data and information to guide performance improvement by advising leadership and staff on methods of data collection and database design to maximize data integrity
  • Defines the scope of a project to maintain focus and uses process and outcome measures to ensure that interventions are sustained over time.
Clinical
  • Facilitates use of data to identify opportunities to improve clinical outcomes, prevent events with the potential to negatively impact patient care, promote a culture of patient safety and improve hospital processes
  • Utilizes and maintains computer applications and databases. Writes queries, analyzes and reports in multiple programs, not limited to:  Premier, NDNQI, Hospital Financial Reports, PowerBI, Cerner (Power Insight) and MS Access.  Stays abreast of new technologies in order to optimize data analysis and reporting including any new databases acquired.
  • Develops reports to effectively communicate findings.  Utilizes full range of software tools to optimize reporting and dissemination of data and results.  Highly skilled in graphic rendition of information.  Able to professionally deliver results in writing or verbally.  Presentation of information is clear, concise, and tailored to the level of the user with complete and accurate data.
  • Collaborates cross functional teams as required to validate as-is processes; identify and eliminate inefficiencies; and reduce costs through process analysis
 
Finance:
  • Considers the financial implications, safety implications, and clinical outcomes when making recommendations, evaluating technology and products, and developing policies and procedures
  • Incorporates fiscal assessments into program evaluations and/ or reports
  • Collaborates with management, consultants and process engineers to determine resource/staffing needs for a particular project and maintain accountability for managing the resources and deliverables for specific projects
  • Maintains compliance with departmental budget
Qualifications
What You Will Need:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Ability to apply mature, independent judgment to situations that may arise.  Good judgment is essential in prioritization of job responsibilities when unusual situations occur.  Consequences of decisions may be extensive.
  • Frequent independent judgment is required to deal with immediate problems; policies or procedures may not be available. 
  • Ability to influence and persuade teams, up to and including the executive level, to build consensus within and across stakeholder groups (high level negotiation skills)
  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, Excel, PowerPoint and database programs and beginning skills in analysis, problem solving and troubleshooting of databases and software
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and issues to facilitate data needs
  • Ability to create professional presentations for executive leadership teams
  • Ability to function autonomously with little supervision
  • Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills
  • Advanced Access database skills preferred
  • Facilitation of various PI methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, PDSA, etc.) preferred

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Engineering, Business or Healthcare-related field
  • Minimum three years’ experience in data analytics/process improvement OR healthcare setting PREFERRED.

  • Registered Nurse licensure
  • Change Management Certification
  • Team STEPPS Certification
  • LEAN Performance Improvement Certification

Job Summary:

The Process Improvement Specialist is a qualified individual who, under the general direction of the Director, will provide project management and clinical analytic support to high priority cost and effectiveness initiatives throughout the system. The Process Improvement Specialist is tasked with identifying inefficiencies in healthcare delivery services and solutions to re-engineer systems to improve the access, quality and cost of care for beneficiaries and the organization. This role will primarily focus on process analysis, time and cost studies, process simulation, process and productivity improvement in the clinical setting. The Process Improvement Specialist may work independently and within multidisciplinary teams toward the execution and implementation of projects directed at improving operational efficiencies for patient safety and highly reliable learning systems. The position is responsible for providing a planned, systemic approach to identifying, designing, measuring and monitoring process improvement activities. The Specialist has a comprehensive understanding of data and analytic tools as well as health care information systems and technology with an advanced ability to apply these methodologies to extrapolate data, analyze and report in a meaningful format to inform and drive local and division performance improvement activities
