You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Lead the Employees – Has a working knowledge of performance expectations for all employees on the unit.

  • Monitors performance of the staff and report’s findings to the nurse manager or takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate. Uses independent judgment to make recommendations to supervisor/manager regarding:

  • Applicant selection for interview and input into the hiring process after actively participating in the interview process.

  • The reassignment of employees for the betterment of patient care delivery.

  • Suspension or other discipline (after consultation with HR and/or NM) for work infractions, performance deficiencies and conduct violations by exercising managerial authority.

  • Periodic evaluations of supervised employees. Recommends promotion of supervised employees, recommends discretionary rewards to supervised employees.

  • The assignment of employees to particular duties or activities or to authorize and assign overtime to employees where appropriate.

  • Is actively involved in all aspects of patient safety on the unit including but not limited to; sentinel event monitoring and reporting, root cause analysis, DNV requirements, incident reporting, medication safety policies and procedures.

  • Oversees and utilizes labor tracking standard to ensure that the unit staffing assignments are done efficiently according to the schedule/patient caseload. Works with staff to ensure supplies are used appropriately and not wasted. Seeks out opportunities for cost containment.

  • Monitors and maintains acceptable compliance with budgets. Will monitor and manage productivity daily and collaborate with Nurse Manager on completing monthly variance report and formulating action plan

  • Assists in development of Operating and Capital Budgets

  • Facilitates patient flow to and from the units.

  • Participates in quality improvement activities to improve processes and patient care.

  • Implements actions as appropriate based on benchmarks and data specific to the departments with the ability to monitor and evaluate progress.

  • In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, continually monitors vacancy and turnover rates. Will assist in implementation strategies for staff retention.

  • Complete and submit departmental reports as assigned by Nurse Manager.

What You Will Need:

  • Possess a broad nursing knowledge, leadership ability, accepts responsibility, exercises authority, and functions independently.

  • Possess insight for employee growth and development and the ability to do effective impartial counseling.

  • Working knowledge of budgets and healthcare finance and leadership capabilities.

  • Has ability to work a varied schedule, to include night and weekend hours, with visibility to all shifts.

  • Must be able to use all systems (i.e. Cerner, Clarivia, Capacity Management) as required on unit.

  • Specific knowledge and skills as delineated by the unit of employment (see competencies)

  • Minimum of two years Perioperative nursing experience or two years if has prior leadership experience in team leader role.

  • BLS required per department standards

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing

  • 2 years’ experience in the Perioperative setting

  • BSN preferred

  • National certification in specialty preferred

  • Prior experience providing leadership of care team or equivalent (ie. Team Leader, Clinical Nurse Coordinator) preferred

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred

  • Prior management experience preferred

  • Current valid Florida State Board of Nursing Registered Professional Nurse license

  • Specialty certification preferred

Job Summary:

The Assistant Nurse Manager supervises and coordinates patient care delivery on the assigned nursing units and is accountable for meeting standards. The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the assigned unit by planning, directing, and evaluating all nursing service functions and activities for the assigned patient care specialty to ensure delivery of optimal available quality patient care and organizational effectiveness.

The Assistant Nurse Manager completes concurrent chart audits of assigned areas to ensure charting within the EMR is complete, accurate and specific to the patients’ diagnosis, plan of care and core measures. Ensures that errors and omissions are corrected in a timely manner. Coordinates staff educational needs.

Achieves operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change

Provides guidance in the delivery of care and nursing practice within the clinical unit. The Assistant Nurse Manager ensures efficient patient and case flow throughout the shift by continually assessing the progress of cases and the staffing levels.

The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in unit employee selection through interviewing and the hiring process. Oversees orientation, training and education of new personnel and ongoing staff development. Assists Leadership with unit budget/cost containment and labor tracking. Assists in the development, implementation and tracking of unit Performance Improvement Metrics and action plans. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
