You Will Be Responsible For:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription. Detect and map radiopharmaceuticals in patients' bodies, using a camera to produce photographic or computer images. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedures. Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of physician. Produce a computer-generated or film image for interpretation by a physician. Process cardiac function studies, using computer. Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures. Record and process results of procedures. Performs, properly documents and reports all procedures in accordance with departmental policy. Adapts procedure to each patient’s medical situation obtaining all available necessary information for proper interpretation. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology. Calculates information accurately. Follows through with all details to ensure a smooth and timely flow of procedures.

Quality Assurance:

  • Prepare stock radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients. Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment. Gather information on patients' illnesses and medical history to guide the choice of diagnostic procedures for therapy. Measure glandular activity, blood volume, red cell survival, and radioactivity of patient, using scanners, Geiger counters, scintillometers, and other laboratory equipment. Train and supervise student or subordinate nuclear medicine technologists. Position radiation fields, radiation beams, and patient to allow for most effective treatment of patient's disease, using computer. Add radioactive substances to biological specimens, such as blood, urine and feces, to determine therapeutic drug or hormone levels. Develop treatment procedures for nuclear medicine treatment programs. Accurately documents, completes and charges procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and physician group. Participates in Performance Improvement projects as requested, and proactively initiates process improvement ideas.

Communication/Cooperation:

  • Keeps supervisor informed and seeks assistance from appropriate individuals when confronted with complicated procedures to ensure safe and effective patient care. Communicates abnormal findings to the reading physicians and notifies the physicians of procedures to be interpreted. Communicates with patients and family members appropriate to age and understanding. Manages time and equipment effectively and works as a team member to provide the best patient care. Carries out assignments in a timely manner. Receives instructions and guidance from the supervisors and is compliant with special requests as situations dictate.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.

  • Graduate of an Accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology Program

  • Must be certified as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Job Summary:

Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures: Prepare stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and administers doses, under direction of physician.
