You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Assisting the licensed anesthesia provider in clinical settings such as: the operating room (OR), obstetrics suite (OB), Endoscopy (Endo), Interventional and/or Diagnostic Radiology, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and any other unit which may require anesthesia services.

  • Demonstrating practical knowledge and expertise in all general areas of anesthesia. The certified anesthesia technician must have a thorough knowledge of the set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of anesthesia delivery systems, monitors, and ancillary devices. The certified anesthesia technicians will maintain a sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies.

  • Follow all guidelines, policies and safety requirements as determined by all relevant regulatory and standard setting agencies or organizations.

  • Performs effectively in the areas where anesthesia is provided, assist the licensed anesthesia provider with patient assessments, evaluations, transport, positioning, insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines and airway management.

  • Prepares, set-up, and test all anesthesia equipment and supplies needed for any particular case requiring anesthesia services

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED

  • BLS Certification

  • Anesthesia Technician Certification (Certified. A.T.)

  • Anesthesia Technician experience minimum 2 years

  • Operating Room experience

Job Summary:

Anesthesia technicians are integral members of the anesthesia patient care team. Their role is to assist licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. In this role, they contribute to safe efficient and cost-effective anesthesia care. Anesthesia technicians provide support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical cases. They provide this service by preparing and maintaining patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia.

The Certified Anesthesia Technician (Certified. A. T.) is a technician who has successfully completed the examination requirements established by the ASATT. The Certified. A.T. is an allied healthcare professional who is an essential member of the anesthesia patient care team, as observed by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). The certified anesthesia technician performs duties under the supervision of the licensed anesthesia care providers.

The American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians is a member of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA), a nationally recognized organization that establishes standards for credentialing examination programs.

The Anesthesia Technician performs a variety of support activities for the surgical team promoting efficient team functioning. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives. Under the direction and supervision of the Coordinator, Charge Nurse, Circulator, Clinical Educator, Nurse Manager or Director of the Operating Room, contributes to the preparation, operation, and maintenance of the Anesthesia Service and Operating Room functions. Performs a wide range of duties that include cleaning and setting up OR Suites before and after each surgery, moving/transporting patients, and disposing of surgical waste and linens in proper safety containers. Position requires a high level of customer service to establish and enhance positive co-worker relationships and interactions with patients and family members from infancy to geriatric, co-workers and other healthcare team members.
