You Will Be Responsible For:
Demonstrates the ability to communicate the hospital’s mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals, to all staff.

Demonstrate competency in laboratory procedures within the scope of practice. Provide all aspects of diagnostic laboratory procedures based on established standards. Perform testing in a timely manner and ensure department staff adhere to established turnaround time goals.
Adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures. Completes annual procedure manual review assignments in a timely manner. Maintains procedure manual’s in areas of responsibility current.
Oversees at least one College of American Pathology (CAP) accreditation checklist to ensure continuous inspection readiness. Maintains current knowledge of CAP, State of Florida, and Federal regulatory requirements for the clinical laboratory. Ensures staff compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
Ensures preventative maintenance and quality control testing is performed as scheduled, to include appropriate documentation, data submission, and monthly review.
Provides orientation and training of department staff in area of responsibility. Ensures departmental competency assessments are assigned and completed according to regulatory requirements. Documents results of competency testing assignments in employee file.
Assists in the staff schedule preparation and planning process to ensure adequate coverage and productivity levels.
Ensures department supply levels are maintained in a manner to reduce waste and avoid expenses for “rush” orders
Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department and hospital’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

What You Will Need:
Demonstrated technical skills and aptitudes related to specific clinical laboratory testing.
Knowledge of laboratory rules and regulations including: CAP, CLIA, and State of Florida.
Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
Ability and willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
Ability and willingness to adapt to change.
Excellent communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related sciences.
Three years of experience in a laboratory setting required or completion of an accredited medical laboratory training program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Master’s Degree in management, medical technology, or related sciences
Five years of experience preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
State of Florida- Medical Technologist. Licensed in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology, Microbiology, and Serology required.
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) Board of Certification or equivalent required.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
- BLS preferred
The Lead Medical Technologist performs laboratory testing in accordance with the Division of Clinical Laboratory Standards and pursuant to Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Chapter 64B3-13.00. Oversees the day-to day operations of various lab sections in the absence of a Supervisor. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
